Yamaha Motors was settled in India in 1985. It entered into a 50-50 venture with the Escorts Group in 1996. Yamaha acquired its remaining stake in august 2001 and brought all the Indian operations under complete control as subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd, Japan. Yamaha Motor India has manufacturing units at Faridabad in Haryana and Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh. The units produce motorcycles both for domestic and export markets. It has a strong workforce of 2500 employees. The motto of Yamaha Motor is highly customer-driven and has a countrywide network of over 450 dealers. The company has excelled in bike segment with the launch of its 100 cc 2-stroke motorcycle RX 100. It has also introduced range of 2-stroke and 4-stroke bikes in India. Latest products include Crux (100cc), Alba (106cc) and Gladiator (125cc). It is a trusted brand name but still Yamaha's motorcycles had been lagging in the market place may be because of stiff competition by the bikes like Pulsars and Apaches.

Yamaha Crux S is the advanced version of Yamaha Crux-R. Crux-S was launched in mid 2005 and S stands for Style. The Crux S presents the typical look of economy segment bikes including the fairing-free side at front. The design has more appeal to “MALE”. The engine is 106cc single cylinder and 4 stroke. Its ergonomics are perfect, the handlebar reaches up to the rider, with the seat and footrests designed for the perfect posture. The four-speed gearbox is Yamaha's major strength which provides excellent feedback and vibration is virtually not existing.
Yamaha Gladiator has a single cylinder, 4-stroke engine that generates a displacement of 123.7cc. The engine is very powerful and produces a peak value of 11ps at 7,500 rpm and the peak torque of 10.4Nm which sets in at 6,500 rpm. The bike has great look and design. The bike is very good for city conditions with very good control. The Gladiator comes with a unique fuel-saving feature called YTPS or the Yamaha Throttle Position Sensor. It is further equipped with different features like fuel tank with sense of graphics and volume, new design side cover and excellent seating space.
One of the model which became hit was G5. G5 is a newer version of the entry-level bike Yamaha Libero. The Yamaha G5 is has a 4 stroke, single cylinder, two-valve, air-cooled 106cc engine which develops a peak power value of 7.6 PS at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque value of 7.85 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
Yamaha also launched another bike recently in the market--Yamaha Alba. This bike targets the mass that looks for an average family bike. Yamaha Alba is a 106 cc bike that gives good mileage, comfortable seating and for decent price. In looks, Yamaha Alba is ordinary. Alba is priced at Rs.45,500 while the spoke wheeled Alba costs around Rs. 43, 500. The brakes are quite effective. The bike has standard 130mm drum brakes for front and rear wheels.
Yamaha will also launch a superbike in India in some time. Many youngsters in India are interested in owning a hot and new superbikes, even if it costs much more. Those who can afford a high lifestyle,can definitely afford a superbike. With Yamaha as brand name, one need not to think twice. The models to be launched are Yamaha MT01 and YZF R1.
