The market of used bikes in India was huge some time back but now days it is facing cut throat competition due to inflation, hardening of interest rates, etc. People use to buy second hand bike when they don't have budget to buy a new one or they want to learn biking on old one before moving to new. These days mostly imported bikes are in demand in second hand market. You can have fun and enjoy the ride without burdening your pocket too much. But one need to be very careful while buying a second hand bike. Few important tips while buying second hand bikes.
Before looking for a bike ask yourself the purpose you are going to use the bike for. Try to get a bike which caters to your requirement.
Then, If you are interested in buying a particular model, you should compare the older and newer rates to expect the price in second hand market. Make sure that you can afford the running costs and maintenance.
Confirm whether seller actually owns the motorbike. It may be the case that seller is trying to sell a stolen model. If the seller does not own it you may have legal things to complete which is a complicated task.
Make sure you get the chance to independently inspect the bike to ensure it is mechanically sound. You should check that there are no obvious oil leaks.You can spot an oil leakif bike is not washed properly. Then check the tyres, brake pads, exhaust pipes etc. You should consult a family mechanic to check the machinery of bike is ok or not.
Beware of “Clocking”. ‘Clocking’, is a common trick used to obtain a higher price by reducing the mileage of a vehicle. You can check by riding the bike and see if the mileage given is consistent or not.
You cannot trust the attractive looks of a bike when buying therefore you should always take a test ride.
Check for the following papers--RC (Registration Certificate) book, Tax certificate, Insurance certificate, PUC (Pollution Under Control) Certificate, NOC (No Objection Certificate) before handling the money.
You should always try to have a good look of bike in the sunlight to avoid any duplicacy or false painting etc.
If you have any doubt - leave the model. You can have more better choices. Don’t base your decision on your eagerness to buy a bike.
